Red Shoes Rock is over for 2024, but it’s time to start planning for September 2025!
Thank you to everyone who wore red shoes or socks in September to support FASD Awareness Month. We had the biggest Red Shoes Rock ever in 2024, and we’re excited to do it all again in 2025.
Next September, we’re encouraging Australians to wear red shoes or socks throughout the month, to spark conversations and create an understanding about this largely invisible and preventable disability. However, there is no need to wait until September – in the meantime you can continue to spread the word and raise awareness about FASD.

Menu updates required for this coming week as I seem to have suddenly developed a lactose intolerance 😬
How the hell does that happen?
One minute I’m eating more cheese than a mouse in a 1960’s cartoon show and the next minute I’m violenting throwing up after two slices 🧀🧀🧀
It’s been a tough ten days… ok one day gut cramps and illness the next so I’ve had to go backwards and find the trigger… at this point it seems to be cheese … milk in my coffee is super minimal and I don’t have any other milk products other than Greek yoghurt which I read is less off an issue due to the live cultures 🤷🏼♀️
Have you developed a sudden allergy ? My daughter (prawns and macadamias) and an aunt (prawns) both have so I know I’m not alone 🙁
Also reading that goats cheese is slightly easier to digest (thank god) but I’m not game to try any until I’ve let my system settle for a few days….

In 2024, we engaged over 50 institutions to light landmarks red across Australia to raise awareness of FASD. We will be looking to top this number in 2025, and are on the lookout for more buildings, landmarks and institutions who would like to join the movement. We encourage you to reach out to fare@fare.org.au if you’d like to know more!
Host an event in September
FASD Awareness Month is an opportunity for you to get together with your community to talk about FASD, how to prevent it, and how to support people living with FASD.
Communities across Australia will be hosting events and getting together on 9 September, and throughout the month.
You can find a full calendar of community events, and also submit your own event on the NOFASD website.
Not sure what kind of event to host?
- Host a park walk or run, where everyone wears red shoes or socks
- Host a morning tea at work or with friends, featuring red food, and with guests wearing red
- Do you belong to a sporting team or club? Can you wear red for your games in September?
