September is FASD Awareness Month

Bernadette’s story

Bernadette wants families caring for someone with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) to know they’re not alone. She shares how a simple question led to answers, support and a greater understanding of her son’s needs.

This experience inspired Bernadette to become a passionate advocate for greater awareness of FASD and more support for families navigating similar challenges.

Bernadette believes we need to reduce the stigma and judgement surrounding FASD and recognise that alcohol and pregnancy is a community-wide issue, and more common than many people realise. By sharing her story, she hopes to encourage open conversations and make it easier for others to seek support and access services.
